INDIANAPOLIS—The Bellarmine volleyball team dropped its opening match in the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament as the Cedarville Yellow Jackets avenged an earlier season loss to the Knights and captured a 3-1 victory at the Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis.
The No. 3 seed from the G-MAC, Cedarville jumped out to a huge advantage on the Knights, winning the first two sets 25-13, 25-18 as Bellarmine struggled in its attack game. Although Bellarmine fought back with a 27-25 win in set three, the Knights couldn't maintain the momentum as Cedarville closed out the GLVC's No. 4 seed with a 25-19 set four victory.
The Cedarville block was formidable as the Yellow Jackets totaled 11 team blocks and limited the Knights to an attack percentage of just .092. Conversely, Cedarville swung at a .233 clip. The Yellow Jackets' Liene Miller and Lauren Willow were especially effective. Miller led all hitters with 17 kills while adding 11 digs, and Willow contributed 12 kills and five total blocks.
For Bellarmine,
Hannah Brown owned the best stat line, totaling 11 kills while hitting .316.
Kristen O'Toole added a double-double for the Knights with 35 assists and 10 digs.
Bellarmine drops to 14-6 overall while Cedarville improves to 11-6.
The Knights return to action tomorrow with two matches in the Crossover, taking on Ashland at 10 a.m. and Tiffin at 4 p.m.
