KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Bellarmine volleyball team took on the Great Lakes Valley Conference leader tonight, and the No. 20 Rockhurst Hawks managed to sweep the Knights 25-18, 26-24, 25-21 on senior day in Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse.
The host Hawks put their offensive skills on display, hitting .313 in the match, but the Knights kept it close with 10 more digs on defense while notching two more kills in the match.
Jayme Scott led all hitters with 15 kills and she registered another double-double with 12 digs. For Rockhurst, Karli Reichert tallied 12 kills and 10 digs. Also with a double-double for Bellarmine was setter
Kristen O'Toole with 40 assists and 11 digs. She also hit .429 in making three kills.
The Hawks' defensive front line was a factor, making seven team blocks while the Knights managed just two.
Bellarmine slips to 18-10 on the season, and the Knights' 8-5 mark leaves them in sixth place in the league standings with two matches remaining in the regular season. The Hawks improve to 12-1 in the GLVC and 24-6 overall.
The Knights conclude their regular season with home matches on Friday and Saturday against Drury and GLVC newcomer Southwest Baptist. Match times are 7 and 3 p.m.
