LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One could marvel at the Bellarmine University baseball team's power in the first game and its efficiency in the next.
On Saturday at Knights Field, Bellarmine walloped three two-run homers in the sixth inning in capturing a 12-2 win over Hillsdale in the opener before requiring only 10 hits to score 16 runs in the tail end in a 16-6 triumph.
With the sweep, Bellarmine (6-4) has won five straight games. Hillsdale dropped to 3-4.

The highlight of this contest came in the sixth inning when junior third baseman
Deylen Miley, sophomore shortstop
Clayton Mehlbauer and senior center fielder
Alex Phillips all cranked two-run homers.
It was the first career round-tripper for Mehlbauer, who fell a double short of hitting for the cycle. He had a two-run triple in the second and an RBI single in the fifth. Mehlbauer finished 3 for 5 with five RBIs.
Bellarmine piled up 17 hits. Senior right fielder
Zac Wiley went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, senior first baseman
Jacob Pendred went 3 for 4 and Phillips added two hits. It was the first home run of the season for Phillips.
Senior left-hander
Eddie Mathis (2-1) earned the win after tossing 8.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts against no walks. Sophomore right-hander
Blake Wheeler followed with a scoreless ninth.
Game 2: Bellarmine 16, Hillsdale 6
This game was knotted at 6 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Bellarmine exploded for 10 runs in the inning.
Miley put the Knights in front when he hammered a go-ahead three-run homer to left. It was his second long ball of the day and third of the season.
Two batters later, senior first baseman
Tyler Neeley blistered a towering two-run shot to left for his second homer of the season. Sophomore second baseman
Justin Rouse would add a two-run single and Miley an RBI single in the 10-run frame.
Sophomore right-hander
Brandon Pfaadt (1-0) notched the win after allowing one earned run and striking out four in 2.0 innings of relief. Freshman left-hander
Nick Parrish preceded him with 1.0 scoreless inning of relief.
Miley went 4 for 5 with five RBIs, and Phillips added a pair of hits.
Bellarmine will host Hillsdale in another doubleheader beginning at noon (ET) Sunday.
