LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Facing another formidable opponent, the Bellarmine University women's tennis team fell 2-5 to NAIA power Indiana Wesleyan on Friday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
While Indiana Wesleyan (24-5) captured the doubles point, junior
Jennifer Skonieczny and sophomore
Ava Ratcliff were victorious at No. 2 with a 6-4 win over Thewuni Devaraja and Maddie Bemisderfer for the Knights (8-4).
Bellarmine notched a pair of wins in singles play. Junior
Ashley Jonathan rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Alex Mella at No. 2, while freshman
Madison Devillez triumphed 6-2, 6-2 over Laura Moore at No. 6.
"We lost to another really good team," Knights Coach
John Mican said. "We came out flat in doubles, but our intensity picked up as the match went on. We still had a fighting chance when Ashley turned her singles match around, but Madison was the only other singles win. Maggie (Walroth) battled courageously to the end but just came up short."
Bellarmine will play at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hanover.
