KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rockhurst scored five runs in the eighth inning in defeating the visiting Bellarmine University baseball team 10-6 on Saturday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Bellarmine (13-11, 6-5) captured two of three in the series from Rockhurst (5-17, 2-9), but the Hawks racked up 16 hits in the finale after recording eight total in the first two games. The Knights notched 12 hits but left 11 on base.

Bellarmine rallied to tie on three occasions — at 1-1, 3-3 and 5-5. The last came in the top of the eighth as sophomore center fielder Matt Higgins plated the tying run with a two-out RBI single.

However, in the bottom half of the eighth, Rockhurst scored five runs on four hits to lead 10-5. Freshman left fielder A.J. Arnold had an RBI single in the ninth, but Bellarmine's comeback bid stopped there.

Arnold collected three hits while sophomore shortstop Clayton Mehlbauer and senior second baseman Trevor Lines had two apiece. Junior catcher Chris Gambert cracked his sixth home run of the season.

Mehlbauer had an RBI single in the third, and Gambert led off the fourth with a solo homer before senior first baseman Jacob Pendred lifted a sacrifice fly to knot the score at 3. Lines gave Bellarmine a 4-3 lead in the sixth with an RBI single before Rockhurst countered with two runs in the bottom half.

Bellarmine hosts Southern Indiana in a single game at 2 p.m. (ET) Tuesday.
