LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The clinch was a cinch for the Bellarmine University women's tennis team Friday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

The Knights sealed yet another berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament after breezing to a 7-0 win over McKendree.

Bellarmine (11-7, 2-2 GLVC) will be making its seventh straight appearance in the GLVC Tournament after sweeping the Bearcats (2-14, 0-5).

McKendree forfeited three matches (No. 3 doubles, Nos. 5 and 6 singles), but Bellarmine had the win in its pocket regardless. Senior Maggie Walroth and junior Ashley Jonathan, at No. 1 doubles, and sophomore Aubrey Smith and freshman Madison Devillez, at No. 2, each rolled 6-0.

The Knights also swept the four contested singles matches. Jonathan, Walroth and Smith won in straight sets at Nos. 2-4 and combined to drop one game or less in five of the six frames. Junior Jennifer Skonieczny dropped the first set at No. 1, but was winning the second 3-0 when her opponent retired.

Smith has now recorded a team-high 34 wins while Devillez has racked up 33 for the Knights, who will finish with a winning record for the 14th time in Coach John Mican's 15 seasons.

There will be a lot on the line when Bellarmine hosts Illinois Springfield at 11 a.m. Saturday in the regular-season finale, as seeding for the GLVC Tournament will be determined.

The Senior Day ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m.

"We took care of business today," Mican said, "and have plenty of energy left for tomorrow's showdown."
