INDIANAPOLIS — The Bellarmine University women's tennis team opened the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a stunner.
Showing their capability at the perfect time, the Knights knocked off No. 21 Drury 4-3 in the quarterfinals at the UIndy Tennis Center.
Bellarmine (12-8) was the four-seed from the East Division, while Drury (14-4) earned the top seed from the West. The Knights have advanced to the semifinals for the second year in a row.
"It was a total team effort to beat the 21st-ranked team in the nation," Knights Coach
John Mican said. "We had the type of focus we needed. Our girls had belief, and we put it all together today. And a huge credit to our supporters."

Madison Devillez evened things up at 1-all after defeating Isabella Melena and Julia Schepp 6-3 at No. 3. Junior

Ava Ratcliff clinched the point in a thriller, as the duo edged Josephine Jedrychowski and Viktoriya Zheleva 7-6 (8-6) at No. 2.
Drury built a 3-1 lead after winning at Nos. 1-3 singles. However, Bellarmine dominated at Nos. 4-6 singles, not losing more than two games in any set.
Ratcliff cut Drury's advantage to 3-2 after topping JiaQing Mo 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Devillez then knotted the match at 3 after defeating Melena 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Smith completed the comeback and the upset with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Schepp at No. 5.
Bellarmine will face the Lewis/Missouri-St. Louis winner at 9 a.m. (ET) Saturday at the UIndy Tennis Center.
