LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University baseball rising sophomores A.J. Arnold and Matt Craven are competing in the Bluegrass World Series at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Bluegrass World Series features a 34-man team of former MLB players called the Louisville Stars headlined by past All-Stars Johnny Damon, Brad Penny, Ben Sheets and Mike Hampton. Arnold will compete for the Dubois County Bombers and Craven for the Owensboro RiverDawgs.

Both Arnold and Craven are from Louisville. A Trinity (Ky.) High School product, Arnold appeared in 20 games with 18 starts as a freshman outfielder for the Knights. Craven, an alum of Butler Traditional (Ky.) High School, is a right-hander who made three relief appearances for Bellarmine in his debut season and was an Academic All-GLVC honoree.

The three-day, four-team Bluegrass World Series is scheduled to unfold today, Friday and Saturday, with two games each day. Arnold and the Bombers and Craven and the RiverDawgs will play in one game each day. The Bombers will meet the Louisville Stars at 6:30 p.m. (ET) Friday, while the RiverDawgs will face the Stars at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Former Bellarmine standout Todd Wellemeyer is on the Louisville Stars roster. The right-hander enjoyed an eight-year MLB career (2003-10) after becoming the highest draft pick in Knights program history when he was selected in the fourth round by the Chicago Cubs in 2000.
