Bellarmine softball splits games with Ferris State and West Liberty

WESTFIELD, Ind.—The Bellarmine softball team split games on Friday afternoon at Grand Park, knocking off Ferris State 8-4 before dropping a 5-0 decision to West Liberty.

With the split, the Knights move to 4-8 on the season with four more games over the next two days.

In Friday's opener, the Knights jumped out to 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and never trailed.  Bellarmine eventually built an 8-2 cushion before Ferris State fought back with a pair of runs in the top of sixth to make the final margin four.

Bellarmine's middle of the lineup did most of the offensive work today as Grace Werner, Alexis Hargrove, Shelby Kelley and Hannah Webb combined to go 11-for-14 at the plate with seven runs scored and seven RBIs.

In the circle, Sabrina Fussenegger, Kelley and Natalie Magnus each got some work with Kelley earning the victory for her 2.2 innings of relief.

In the second game, the Knights simply couldn't muster a rally, scattering five hits.  Meanwhile, West Liberty was pretty efficient on offense, plating five runs on just six hits with Bellarmine pitching issuing six free passes on five walks and a hit batter.

Werner finished the day collecting five hits. After going 4-for-4 in the first game, she went 1-for-2 with two walks against the Hilltoppers.

Bellarmine squares off against Northwood and Lake Erie tomorrow.  Start times are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
