TIGERVILLE, S.C. — The No. 17 Bellarmine University baseball team fell 10-2 to No. 8 North Greenville in its season opener Friday at Ashmore Park.

Jacob Mulcahy launched solo homers for Bellarmine (0-1). North Greenville (3-1-1) outhit the Knights 14-4, with nine of those going for extra bases. The Crusaders didn't homer, but they collected six doubles and three triples.
The game was tight for seven-and-a-half innings, but North Greenville broke it open with a six-run eighth. Mulcahy's homer had cut Bellarmine's deficit to 4-2 in the top of the frame.

Clayton Mehlbauer had one hit each for Bellarmine. Junior right-hander
Brandon Pfaadt (0-1) struck out six while allowing two earned runs over a 5.0-inning start.
North Greenville's Ethan Garner (1-0) allowed two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts over 8.0 innings pitched.
Bellarmine and North Greenville will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader starting at noon (ET) Saturday.
