BOONE, NC — The Bellarmine University wrestling team competed in its first-ever Southern Conference duals Sunday, falling 27-16 to Davidson and 45-0 to tri-meet host Appalachian State in Varsity Gym.

Against Davidson (1-1, 1-1 SoCon), Bellarmine (0-4, 0-2) collected four wins. Freshman Adonis Boyd won by forfeit at 125, sophomore Mitch Collica notched a 5-3 victory over David Loniewski at 149, senior Eric Beck posted a 10-2 major decision over Anthony Spera at 165 and sophomore Devan Hendricks delivered a 7-1 win over Jaden Hardrick at 174.

With three matches remaining, Bellarmine held a 16-12 lead, but Davidson rallied for the win.

Appalachian State (2-1, 2-0), which is receiving votes in the NWCA poll, had four ranked wrestlers and didn't lose a match Sunday. The Mountaineers defeated Davidson 38-0.

Bellarmine will host its first-ever Division I event, and Southern Conference duals, when the Knights welcome The Citadel and Presbyterian on Sunday.
