LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights volleyball team made its Division I home debut on Saturday afternoon, falling to the visiting Xavier Musketeers in four sets (23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 18-25) in Knights Hall.
Sophomore Hannah Brown led the Knights offensively, chalking up a game-high 17 kills to establish a new career high. She also swung for a .323 attack percentage.
Chrysanthi Stamatiou also turned in a solid performance for Bellarmine. The Cincinnati transfer recorded 15 kills while adding nine digs. Junior Abbie Stefanon also reached double digits in kills putting down 10 with just four errors.
Setter Sam Rickert notched her second double-double of the season for the Knights handing out 44 assists and coming up with 12 digs.
Defensively, Bellarmine was paced by libero Karleigh Wilson with 18 digs while Abbie Oetting recorded a solo block and four assists.
Xavier got 12 kills apiece From Mary Ann O'Toole and Delaney Hogan to lead the Musketeer attack.
The visitors outhit the Knights .227 to .161 and Xavier held a 13-7 advantage in team blocks.
Bellarmine slips to 1-2 on the season while Xavier wins its first match of the season and stands 1-0.
The Knights are back in action tomorrow when they welcome Butler for a 3 p.m. match.
