LOUISVILLE, Ky.— On a day that began with Senior Day recognitions, Bellarmine could not send its senior class off with a home victory as visiting Lipscomb dominated play at the net to sweep the Knights 25-19, 25-10, 25-15 in ASUN Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Bisons (12-12, 9-5 ASUN) repelled shot after shot from Bellarmine and finished with a 12-1 advantage in team blocks, and the guests from Nashville enjoyed a .356 hitting percentage while holding the Knights to just .048. Lipscomb committed just five attack errors in the entire match with three of those coming in the final set.
Sophomore middle Meg Mersman paced the Bisons both offensively and defensively. She recorded 12 kills while hitting at a .455 clip and was credited with nine total blocks—one solo and eight assisted blocks.
On senior day, the Knights' leading hitter was senior
Julia Dailey with eight kills and a .278 hitting percentage. Four other seniors played in their final match in Knights Hall with all four making significant contributions.
Abbie Stefanon recorded Bellarmine's only block;
Chrysanthi Stamatiou had four kills, a service ace and six digs;
Bailey Roszman also notched four kills; and
Sam Rickert dished out seven assists and came up with six digs.
Aside from the seniors, junior
Jayme Scott and sophomore
Anna Lococo also posted solid numbers for Bellarmine. Scott rang up eight of both kills and digs while Lococo averaged six digs per set for the second match in a row and finished with 18 today.
The Knights (6-21, 2-13 ASUN) close the 2021 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 13 when they travel to Richmond to face Eastern Kentucky in a 1 p.m. match.
