Men's soccer falls to Central Arkansas in ASUN semifinals

CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas scored two goals early in the second half in defeating the Bellarmine University men's soccer team 2-0 Sunday in the ASUN Championship semifinals at Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.

Making its second straight appearance in the ASUN semis, sixth-seeded Bellarmine finished the season 7-8-2. Two-seed Central Arkansas, the league's regular-season co-champion, improved to 11-5.

After a scoreless first half, UCA found the net less than three minutes into the second half. Karim Diao capitalized on a counterattack following a Knights free kick.

Diao also accounted for the second goal. The insurance score came in the 53rd minute and was Diao's sixth goal of the season.

Central Arkansas earned a bye into the semifinals, while Bellarmine was playing on a day's rest after defeating FGCU 2-1 Friday night in the quarterfinals.

The Bears finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots, including 4-2 on goal.
