LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Knights wrestling returns home for the first time in a month this Saturday as Bellarmine welcomes the Ohio Bobcats (1-1) for a dual at Knights Hall.
Last time at home, BU (1-7) won its opening dual of the season against SIUE 19-18. Since then, the Knights have been away from home four consecutive weeks facing steep competition. Most recently, Bellarmine competed at the Cougar Clash Invitational hosted by SIUE.
"There were some bright spots for sure," Knights Head Coach
Ned Shuck said after last weekend's appearance at the Cougar Clash. "The level of fight our guys are bringing continues to rise! I am really proud of
Sam Schroeder getting a big win over an opponent he lost to early last month in our home dual. It was also great to get some of our guys on the mat this weekend that haven't been able to compete yet."
Schroeder (184) became the first Knights wrestler to win three matches in one day, going 3-1 and finishing in third place.
Eric Beck (165),
Cole Nance (157), and Schroeder are tied for the team lead in wins with four each this season. Nance and Beck each have a pin, Schroeder boasts a technical fall, and
Jack Parker (125) has recorded a major decision victory.
"Positionally, we've made big gains," Shuck added. "It isn't quite showing up yet as a bunch of wins, but those are right around the corner if these guys continue to work and believer in themselves and their training."
The home dual versus Ohio begins at 5:00 p.m. A few wrestlers will also be sent on the road Saturday to compete in the Cleveland State Open. All of the action at Knights Hall can be viewed on BU Knights Sports Network.
