KENNESAW, Ga. — The Bellarmine University baseball team was defeated 9-1 by Kennesaw State in its ASUN debut Friday at Stillwell Baseball Stadium.

Clayton Mehlbauer launched his second homer of the season for Bellarmine (3-8, 0-1 ASUN), a solo shot in the eighth. Senior third baseman
Josh Finerty had Bellarmine's only other hit against Kennesaw State (8-5, 1-0).
Jake Rice moved to 4-0 for the Owls after allowing a single hit with no walks and eight strikeouts in 7.0 scoreless innings. KSU scored three times in the first and held a 6-0 lead after four on the way to the win.
Bellarmine and KSU will meet at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday in the second of the three-game series.
