LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Visiting Austin Peay State snapped the Bellarmine University baseball team's four-game winning streak Tuesday with a 9-1 nonconference win over the Knights.
Bellarmine's second batter of the game, junior shortstop
Clayton Mehlbauer, blasted his third homer of the season in the first, but his solo shot to center stood as the only run of the game for the Knights (7-11).
Austin Peay (5-13) took a 3-1 lead with a two-run fifth and added three runs apiece in the seventh and eighth. The Governors totaled 13 hits against eight Knights pitchers. Bellarmine walked 12 batters.
Austin Peay also used a committee approach on the mound, as six pitchers combined to limit Bellarmine to one run on six hits. Mehlbauer collected two of them.
Bellarmine hosts Liberty in a three-game ASUN series from Friday-Sunday at Knights Field.
