LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kennesaw State scored late on a free kick in defeating the Bellarmine University women's soccer team 1-0 Sunday in ASUN action at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
In the 86th minute, Kendall Higgs of Kennesaw State (2-5, 1-2 ASUN) set up from approximately 25 yards out in the dead center of the field for a free kick against Bellarmine (1-3, 1-1). Higgs laced a shot inside the left post to break the scoreless deadlock.
"Generally speaking, that was another solid effort with regards to what we needed to do to be in the game and have a chance for another result," Knights Coach
Chris Tinius said. "They did a few things differently in the first half. The second half they went back to more of a traditional 4-3-3, and we had some real trouble battling and matching up athletically at times."
Bellarmine held a 12-7 advantage in shots, including 3-1 on frame, and senior midfielder
Natalie Teo had a strike carom off the post. KSU had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Bellarmine plays at 2 p.m. (ET) Thursday at North Alabama in another ASUN contest.
"We'll keep at it," Tinius said. "There was plenty of good on the field today to keep trying to build on."
