LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Murray State scored five runs in the fourth inning en route to a 10-5 win over the Bellarmine University baseball team Tuesday at Knights Field.
Bellarmine (10-23) mostly rested its customary starting lineup against Murray State (18-16) except for freshman first baseman
Davis Crane and junior center fielder
Jack Ockerman, who have combined for 32 starts.
Crane had a big game for Bellarmine, smashing a two-run homer in the third and adding an RBI single in the seventh. He finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, with the homer representing his second long ball of the season.
Freshman left fielder
Will Aubel will certainly never forget his first collegiate home run. In the seventh, Aubel slammed a shot off the center-field wall that took a significant carom to the left. When the outfielder then seemed to have some trouble collecting the ball cleanly, Aubel was officially off to the races, getting waved around third and sliding home safely for an inside-the-park homer.
Bellarmine scored twice in the seventh to cut its deficit to 6-5, but Murray State, which jumped ahead with a five-run fourth, countered with a two-run homer in the eighth and put two more on the board in the ninth to pull away.
Freshman third baseman
Peyton Back doubled among his two hits for Bellarmine. Sophomore left-hander
Nick Parrish pitched a scoreless inning to start the game, and senior right-hander
Blake Wheeler struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Bellarmine plays Friday-Sunday at North Alabama in a three-game ASUN series. The first game is at 6 p.m. (ET) Friday.
