LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Chris Gambert tied the Bellarmine University baseball team's career home-run record, but Lipscomb went deep three times in the seventh in rallying to defeat the Knights 5-3 Friday in ASUN action at Knights Field.
Gambert's 33rd career homer was launched in the first inning for Bellarmine (12-29, 7-15 ASUN). The senior outfielder tied Patrick Brady for the all-time mark with a no-doubter to left, his eighth round-tripper of the season.
Davis Crane also went deep against Lipscomb (16-24, 7-12) in the first. The freshman first baseman creamed a solo shot to center for his third homer of the season.
Bellarmine couldn't sustain the early fireworks. The Knights didn't score after loading the bases in the second, after putting two on in the third and after getting a leadoff double from junior right fielder
Jacob Mulcahy in the fourth. A pair of walks and a wild pitch led to a run in the fifth, but Bellarmine wouldn't score again.
Lipscomb, meanwhile, scored once in the fifth and overtook Bellarmine with a four-run seventh that featured three home runs.
Senior right-hander
Deylen Miley had a solid start for Bellarmine, allowing three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. Senior right-hander
Blake Wheeler tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
Mulcahy collected two of Bellarmine's five hits.
The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. (ET) Saturday at Knights Field. The doubleheader will be presented by Passport Health.
