Bellarmine men's tennis ready for big home-opening weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine men's tennis team plays its first three home matches of the 2022 season on Friday and Saturday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
 
The Knights start by hosting Xavier (0-2) out of the Big East in their home opener at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.  Saturday features a morning match against Division II West Liberty University at 9:30 a.m. and afternoon matchup with NAIA Indiana University Southeast at 3:00 p.m.
 
Xavier has dropped its first two matches this year to Ohio State (6-1) and Dayton (4-3).  The Musketeers went 2-12 last season including a 6-1 win over Bellarmine in Cincinnati.
 
West Liberty, located in West Virginia, opens its season against Bellarmine after going 2-0 in the fall.  The Hilltoppers 4-10 last season competing in the Mountain East Conference.
 
IU-Southeast, from just across the Ohio River in New Albany, also starts its season against the Knights.  The Grenadiers went 2-0 in the fall with wins over Bethel and Saint Francis.  Bellarmine bested IU-Southeast 7-0 in last year's February matchup.  That loss was one of nine for the Grenadiers in an 8-9 season playing in the River States Conference.
 
Freshman Jack Batchelor still leads BU with eight singles wins, and junior Paul Reynolds has a team-best three doubles wins.
