MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Bellarmine women's tennis played a packed weekend of tennis at Middle Tennessee and came away with 11 victories after three days of hidden dual action.
The Knights totaled six doubles wins (6-5 overall record) and five singles victories facing North Alabama, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Lipscomb, Chattanooga, and Ball State.
In Friday doubles action, the combo of
Vendula Kryslova and
Shu Grosso earned a 6-2 doubles win versus Lipscomb, while
Ekaterina Tikhonko and
Maja Kozerski posted a 6-3 victory against the Bisons. Later in the day, Tikhonko and Kryslova earned a convincing 6-1 doubles win against MTSU. That same duo bested Chattanooga's top doubles team 6-2 on Saturday and UNA's best team 6-3 on Sunday.
Cydney Rogers and
Hanley Riner also teamed up for a doubles win against North Alabama, winning 7-5.
In singles, Kryslova topped Elena Malykh of Ball State 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 on Saturday morning, and Rogers followed her up with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory against Emma Peeler of Ball State. Tikhonko was dominant against Muskan Gupta of MTSU, winning 6-0, 6-1 on Sunday morning, and Kryslova nabbed her second singles win of the weekend versus Love-Star Alexis 0-6, 7-6 (3), 10-5. Bellarmine's final singles win came from Kozerski, who beat MTSU's Cara Szilasi 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday.
"I'm proud of the team this weekend," Knights Head Coach
Brian Slack said. "It was a lot of tennis in three days. We have some work to do, and have a few weeks before our next tournament to get to work on those things. I'm proud of each player getting a win this weekend either in singles or doubles. That is something we will grow on moving forward.
The Knights will take three weeks off before hosting their final fall event Oct. 22-23 in Louisville.
