CLEVELAND, Ohio. – Bellarmine wrestling found more success this weekend at the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open in Cleveland on Sunday.  Hosted by Case Western Reserve University, the Knights competed against 32 other teams, and came away with the sixth most match points as a squad.

Individually, senior Alex Rivera earned a championship in 174, while three others claimed second place.

"I'm so proud of Alex Rivera getting  a big tournament win," Knights Head Coach Ned Shuck said.  "I love that a local Louisville kid is here with us and doing a tremendous job in the classroom and on the mat!"

Rivera claimed a 6-4 victory by decision over Corbin May (Ashland) in the quarterfinals, prior to a pin (4:49) of Jaret Lowry (Ohio Wesleyan University).  With a Hunter DeLong forfeit (Glenville State), Rivera earned the title in 174.  Three other Knights reached the championship bout of their weight class and claimed second place.  Freshman Michael Schiffhauer totaled a 3-1 record with a major decision win and pin, earning second in the 133 bracket.  Fellow freshman Thaddeus Huff went 4-1 with three pins on his way to a second place finish in 285.  Finally, another freshman in Kennedy Wyatt recorded a 3-1 record with a major decision victory and sudden victory en route to second place.  Sophomore Jack Parker posted a 4-2 record and fourth place finish in 125, while freshman Damion Ryan went 3-2 with a fifth place mark in 125.  Sophomore Cole Nance also went 3-2 and earned fifth in the 165 bracket

Other Knights wrestlers who competed were Zac Cowan (149), Kolby McCoy (157), Easton Tobia (165), Luke LeClerc (165), Darian Huff (174), Noah Rowlett (184), and William Muckler (285).

"We had some battles today for sure," Shuck added.  "There is no shortage of fight in these guys! I love it! Picking up some of the L's is tough, but I can see the gains they are making. It's my job to help give them the skills to turn that around. They are owning every part of their development. We are going to keep building together! We can't wait to pack the gym for our first home dual on Nov. 30th!"

Bellarmine will next compete at the Lindenwood Open on Saturday, Nov. 19th in Saint Charles, Missouri.
