LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine women's tennis closed out a busy weekend with a 4-0 loss to Saint Louis on Sunday morning at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex. The Knights had a short turn-around following matches against Western Michigan and Indiana on Saturday.
Despite a slow start in doubles, BU came up just short in the no. 1 and no. 2 slots. The teams of
Madison Devillez and
Ashley Jonathan, (no. 1) along with
Rose Pastoret and
Channing Varnum (no. 2), both lost 6-4.
"We came out really flat today to start doubles," Knights Head Coach
Brian Slack said. "We have talked a few times this year about the energy to start matches and how we can't let someone come into our facility with more energy than us. We have done a good job on the road, but for some reason at home we've struggled with that so far."
Saint Louis then swept the three singles matches to take home the victory.
"We did a much better job in singles," Slack added. "I think it also helps on our indoors that we are only playing three women, so we have some energy from those that are not playing. Just overall, we have to be better from start to finish competing with energy in matches. We will continue to work on it in practice in hopes it will carry over to match play."
Following a close 4-3 loss to Louisville, the Billikens now have a 2-4 record this season. Bellarmine will try to nab its first victory of the year in a cross-town match at Louisville on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
