MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State scored a combined seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away from the Bellarmine University baseball team for a 13-7 win Wednesday at Reagan Field.
Senior shortstop
Clayton Mehlbauer homered for the second straight game and third time overall this season for Bellarmine (1-9). Mehlbauer had an RBI single in the first and his two-run blast in the second staked the Knights to a 5-1 lead over undefeated Murray State (8-0). He finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Junior second baseman
Brett Pfaadt and redshirt freshman
Jackson Case both went 2-for-4. Junior designated hitter
Drew Buhr had an RBI double in the first, and junior third baseman
Peyton Back had an RBI single in a two-run fifth that provided Bellarmine a 7-5 lead.
It was all Murray State from there. The Racers scored three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth while shutting out the Knights over the last four innings.
Four of the first five runs Bellarmine allowed were unearned, which proved critical. The Knights also hurt themselves by issuing 12 walks.
Bellarmine will play a three-game series at Presbyterian starting at 6 p.m. (ET) Friday.
