Central Arkansas clinches series against baseball with 10-6 win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Central Arkansas scored five runs in the third inning en route to a 10-6 win over the Bellarmine University baseball team Sunday in ASUN play at Knights Field.

Central Arkansas (7-11, 2-1 ASUN) captured the series after taking the last two games. In Saturday's 15-9 victory, the Bears scored five runs apiece in the eighth and ninth innings, and they followed a day later with a five-run third where they doubled three times but also took advantage of three walks and two hit batsmen in the frame.

Bellarmine (3-17, 1-2) trailed 6-2 after that inning but got within 7-5 in the fifth after a sacrifice fly by senior right fielder Jacob Mulcahy and an RBI single by junior catcher Gabe Bratetic. Central Arkansas answered with two runs in the sixth for a 9-5 lead and limited the Knights to only one run over the last four innings.

Sophomore first baseman Davis Crane had an RBI double in the seventh while collecting two RBIs for Bellarmine. Bratetic, senior shortstop Clayton Mehlbauer and junior second baseman Brett Pfaadt registered two hits apiece. Senior left fielder Matt Higgins scored three runs behind a hit and two walks.

Junior lefthander Steven Thom tossed the final 3.0 innings, allowing only one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Bellarmine will play at 4 p.m. (ET) Tuesday at Eastern Illinois.
