Braunecker fires complete game, but EKU blanks baseball 2-0

RICHMOND, Ky. — Rese Brown and Will Brian combined for a two-hitter as Eastern Kentucky shut out the Bellarmine University baseball team 2-0 Saturday in ASUN play at Earle Combs Stadium.

Brown struck out 10 while allowing two hits and two walks in 7.0 innings pitched for Eastern Kentucky (16-8, 4-1 ASUN), which clinched the series with the win. Brian notched his 10th save in striking out three in 2.0 scoreless innings against the Knights (3-19, 1-4).

Sophomore lefthander Gavin Braunecker tossed the second complete game in the Division-I era for Bellarmine, allowing two earned runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in a career-high 8.0 innings pitched. Jacob Nagel threw a complete game last season against Kennesaw State.

Braunecker retired the side in order in each of the first three innings. The lefty didn't allow a hit until the fifth. EKU scratched across a run in the fifth and the eighth.

Senior third baseman Colin Bertsch and senior center fielder Jack Ockerman had one hit apiece for Bellarmine.

The Knights and Colonels will conclude the series at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
