Softball drops series finale at Stetson

DELAND, Fla.— Bellarmine closed out another ASUN series on Sunday at Stetson, falling to the hatters by a final score of 9-1 in six innings.

Stetson (13-20, 3-2 ASUN) won the series with the victory after splitting Saturday's games with the Knights (9-23, 1-5 ASUN).  Hannah Webb's two-run home run in the fifth inning of game one was the difference in Bellarmine's first ever ASUN win.

Game three of the series was tight through the first three and a half innings, but turned sour for Bellarmine in the bottom of the fourth.

Prior to the fourth, Bellarmine threatened in the first with a pair of singles from Webb and Alexis Hargrove, but the Knights were unable to plate any runs.  Stetson then took the lead in the third inning with a two-run home run from Lizzie Shubert.  Bellarmine quickly answered, however, to make it a 2-1 game.  Hargrove led off the inning with a double, and Emily O'Dee reached on error by Stetson's second baseman, scoring Hargrove.

Stetson put the game out of reach though in the next half inning.  The Hatters plated six runs with the help of two walks, a hit by pitch, one Bellarmine error, a single, and a bases clearing double.  The big inning pushed Stetson's lead to 8-1.  The Hatters closed out the game in the sixth with a walk-off RBI double from Marissa Baxter, pushing Stetson to the run-rule mark.

Bellarmine totaled six hits with three coming from Alexis Hargrove – her second three-hit game of the season.  Joelle Zielinski produced a pair of hits, while Webb came up with a base knock as well.

Only four of Stetson's nine runs were earned.  Carson Goately started for the Knights and pitched the first three innings.  Megan Murphy and Claire Lehmkuhler also pitched.  Lauren Hobbs earned her fifth win of the season after tossing all six innings.

Bellarmine's ASUN schedule continues at home next weekend as the Knights host Liberty.  Games one and two take place at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Friday, while the series finale is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at Knights Field.
