Braunecker strong on mound, but baseball blanked by Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. — Despite a strong start from Gavin Braunecker, the Bellarmine University baseball team fell 5-0 to Presbyterian on Saturday at the PC Baseball Complex.

Braunecker did not allow an earned run in 6.1 innings pitched for Bellarmine (1-11). The sophomore lefthander struck out three while yielding six hits and issuing two walks. The only scoring for the Blue Hose (6-5) against Braunecker was a pair of unearned runs in the fifth.

Duncan Howard (1-1) and Clark Dearman combined for the shutout. Howard struck out eight and allowed three hits in 6.2 scoreless innings, while Dearman fanned a pair in collecting the save after tossing 2.1 innings.

Senior first baseman Jacob Mulcahy, junior second baseman Drew Buhr, senior third baseman Colin Bertsch and senior pinch hitter A.J. Arnold notched one hit apiece for Bellarmine.

After scoring the two aforementioned unearned runs in the fifth, Presbyterian added to its lead in the eighth on a solo homer by Eric Toth and a two-run shot by Jeremiah Boyd.

Bellarmine and Presbyterian will conclude the three-game series at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
