O'Dee's two homers power Bellarmine to 9-5 midweek win at Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Wednesday evening was one to remember for Bellarmine freshman Emily O'Dee.  The Westerville, Ohio native blasted a second inning grand slam and solo home run in the fourth to carry Bellarmine to a 9-5 win over Evansville.

The Knights scored six of their nine runs in the first three innings and held off a late Purple Aces rally to lock up their 10th win of the season.  The victory also gave Bellarmine a taste of revenge after falling twice to Evansville last year.

Over half of Bellarmine's scoring came in the second inning, starting with two walks and single to load the bases.  With two outs, Anna Greenwell walked to bring home Olivia Bricker and give Bellarmine a 1-0 lead.  Then the lineup card flipped over to O'Dee at the top of the order, and she smashed a grand slam over the center field fence to give the Knights a 5-0 advantage.

In the third, Bellarmine added a run with a Chloe Collins RBI double.  Evansville earned one back in the bottom of the third to make it 6-1, but the Knights immediately answered with O'Dee's solo home run out to left field.

The Purple Aces used a big fourth inning to claw back in the game.  Jessica Fehr hit an RBI single and Marah Wood sent a 2-RBI double to center field, slicing the lead to 7-4.  Evansville pulled within two thanks to a Mackenzie McFeron RBI single in the fifth, and Bellarmine had some work to do to wrap up the game.

BU came through with another immediate response in the sixth inning.  Abby Shipley and Anna Greenwell both singled, paving the way for a big Alexis Hargrove hit.  Hargrove delivered a 2-RBI double to right center field that gave the Knights much needed insurance and a 9-5 lead.

O'Dee's home runs were the first of her career.  She previously had one RBI on the season and extended that mark to six total with five RBI on Wednesday night.

Bellarmine stuck with its three-pitcher attack on Wednesday, starting Carson Goatley before turning to Megan Murphy and Claire Lehmkuhler.  Goatley tossed two hitless innings, while Murphy pitched the next 1.2 innings.  Lehmkuhler was in the circle for the final 3.1 innings and earned her fifth win of the season as the most effective reliever.
