FLORENCE, Ala. — North Alabama rolled to a 15-5 victory over the Bellarmine University baseball team Friday in an ASUN series opener at Mike D. Lane Field.
Clayton Mehlbauer shined for Bellarmine (11-37, 8-17) in an otherwise forgettable contest against the Lions (10-37, 3-22). The senior shortstop went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI.
Mehlbauer smashed a solo homer in the second inning and crushed a two-run shot in the sixth to boost his total to seven on the season. He's went deep three times over the last two games. Mehlbauer added an RBI single in the eighth.
Sophomore catcher
Ashton Smith added two hits, including an RBI double. Freshman righthander
Arren Hash pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
North Alabama scored three runs in the first and two in the second to take a 5-1 lead. Mehlbauer's second homer cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth, but the Lions answered with three runs in the bottom half and piled up seven in the eighth.
The second of the three-game series will take place at 3 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
