Bellarmine softball concludes season with loss at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. —  Bellarmine softball concluded its season with a 10-2 loss at Lipscomb on Friday afternoon.

Like the first two games on Thursday, Friday's contest was affected by rain.  With storms in the area, the game was delayed in the bottom of the third inning for approximately two hours.  Lipscomb led 4-2 at that point and added six more runs to take the game in five innings.

The Bisons started the scoring in the first inning with the help of three singles.  Two of those runs came in, giving Lipscomb a quick 2-0 advantage.

The Knights scored their lone runs and tied the game in the top of the third inning.  Sydney Young singled down the left field line, and Joelle Zielinski entered to pinch run.  Zielinksi stole second base, which was followed by an Olivia Bricker walk.  Anna Greenwell then laid down a sacrifice bunt, pushing Zielinski to third and Bricker to second.  Alexis Hargrove drove in the first run for BU, reaching on a fielder's choice and bringing home Zielinski.  A Hannah Webb sacrifice fly to left knotted the game 2-2.

Prior to the rain delay, Lipscomb scored a pair of runs to retake the lead in the home half of the third inning.  When play resumed approximately 4:30 p.m. ET, Kaitlyn Woodside singled through the right side to score two more runs and give the Bisons a 6-2 lead.  Two more Lipscomb runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth ultimately ended the game.  A RBI walk and wild pitch brought in the two game-winning runs for the Bisons.

Bellarmine ended the game with three hits – Carley Ziegler to right field in the fourth inning, Bricker doubled in the fifth, and Young started the second inning rally with her base knock.

Kate Peters pitched all five innings for Lipscomb, earning her third win in the three game series.  Carson Goatley pitched the first four innings for the Knights, while Claire Lehmkuhler and Megan Murphy each pitched one out.

Bellarmine finished its second season in Division I with a 10-41 record (1-23 ASUN) – four more than the Knights' win total last season.  BU also picked up its first ever ASUN win with a victory against Stetson on March 26th

Grace Werner finished the season with a team-best .302 batting average, while Webb led the team with 44 hits.  Webb played every inning of all 157 possible games in her career.  Freshman Chloe Collins led BU in home runs (six) along with slugging percentage (.477).   Lehmkuhler had a team-best 5.00 ERA in her freshman season, while Goatley led the Knights with 72 strikeouts in the circle.
