LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine University Head Men's Basketball Coach Scott Davenport announced the signing of Carmel, Indiana native Peter Suder to a national letter-of-intent on Thursday.

Suder, a 6-5 guard, averaged 13.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game as a senior to lead Carmel High School to an 18-6 record a sectional finals appearance. A starter on state championship teams as a freshman and a junior (the state tournament was canceled due to COVID his sophomore year), Suder finished his career with 1,062 points and 572 rebounds and was named to the Indiana All-Star Team and as a finalist for Mr. Basketball.  Carmel was a combined 88-17 in his four years with the program.

"WINNER!!!!! This is Pete Suder on and off the court," Davenport said. "His recruitment was one of promoting Bellarmine University and basketball but equally a recruitment of admiration. Pete has demonstrated true dedication and passion through injury, worldwide pandemic and challenges that he never allowed ANYTHING to alter his incredible level of achievement as a person or as a player. He is a very passionate son, brother, grandson, player, teammate, and true student of the game he loves and academic challenges he embraces."

Suder, who participated in a signing event at his high school on Wednesday, said, "I chose Bellarmine because of the type of players and coaching staff.  Louisville is a great sports community that shows a great deal of support for Bellarmine basketball.  Bellarmine was a great fit for me because everyone there—the coaches, players, managers, and the administration—is committed to achieving success the right way. At every level, I have competed against the best competition.  I'm excited about Bellarmine's challenging schedule that allows me to continue to compete at the highest level of college basketball."

Davenport said Suder comes from a highly distinguished high school program with a strong track record of producing quality collegiate players.  "Carmel High School Basketball and Coach Ryan Osborn prepares players at a very, very high level to execute in the classroom and perform/compete at an extremely high level on the court. The Carmel Basketball program's record speaks loudly to their preparation and success."

Osborn said Suder's value to a team goes beyond statistics. "Pete has been an incredible ambassador for our program his entire career," Osborn said. "He's produced in every statistical category, won at an extremely high level and challenged his teammates every day for four years.  There hasn't been a day we didn't get Pete's best. He's led from the front, taken on every role and delivered with a 'do whatever it takes' mentality. I'm very proud of him and extremely blessed with the opportunity to coach him. Pete has been everything we ask our guys to stand for while competing at the highest level. He leaves Carmel with many awards and accolades, but it's the intangibles he brings every day that will leave a footprint for years to come. He's a great teammate, a two-time State Champion and the ultimate competitor. I have no doubt success will follow Pete every step of the way."

Suder is the second men's basketball student-athlete to sign for the 2022-23 year, joining Michael Bova of Lakewood, Ohio, who signed in the fall.  In his senior year, Bova was recognized as a first-team All-State selection in Ohio and led St. Edward to an appearance in the Ohio Division 1 state semifinals.
