LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Adam Elliott has joined the Bellarmine University baseball coaching staff as an assistant, Head Coach Chris Dominguez announced Wednesday.

Like Dominguez, who will be entering his first season overseeing the Knights, Elliott is a former standout player at the University of Louisville. He closed out an exemplary five-year career with the Cardinals in 2021.

Dominguez said Elliott will bring a bevy of tools to his coaching role. Although primarily a pitcher, he did see some action in the field and in the batter's box during his time with the Cardinals.

"Adam will be our 'Swiss Army knife' as he has done a little bit of everything in his career," Dominguez said. "Bringing youth and his experience with the Louisville baseball program is why he will be a perfect fit for us. He will assist with the pitchers but will be able to coach the outfielders and help me with the hitters as well."

Elliott was a graduate assistant with his alma mater in 2022. Louisville finished the season 42-21-1, earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals after hosting and winning its NCAA Regional.

A left-handed reliever, Elliott made 87 appearances on the mound over his tenure at Louisville. He recorded an 11-5 record with six saves and posted a 2.95 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 134.1 innings pitched. Opposing hitters batted a mere .203 against him, never topping .217 in any of his five seasons.

Elliott was impactful toeing the rubber from the moment he arrived on the Louisville campus. As a freshman in 2017, the southpaw went 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA and 31 strikeouts over 33.2 innings pitched. He didn't allow a single run over 9.1 innings pitched as a sophomore in 2018 and was 3-2 with a 2.48 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 32.2 innings pitched as a junior in 2019.

The pandemic shortened what started off as a brilliant season for Elliott in 2020. He carried a 0.87 ERA over seven relief appearances before the shutdown. Back to a mostly full slate in 2021, Elliott finished his college tenure by tossing a career-high 48.1 innings pitched with a career-best 49 strikeouts over 20 appearances.

Elliott is a hometown product. He played three seasons at St. Xavier High School in Louisville and helped the Tigers capture state titles in 2014 and 2016. Elliott received All-State accolades and was a Kentucky State Tournament Most Valuable Player. As a senior, he went 7-2 record with a 1.10 ERA on the mound and finished with .361 batting average and 10 doubles. He was 4-2 with a 1.40 ERA and 51 strikeouts on the mound as a junior while also hitting .376.

Elliott earned a bachelor's degree in sports administration from Louisville in 2020 and immediately followed by earning a master's degree in human resources.

"I'm extremely excited to be joining the Bellarmine baseball staff," Elliott said. "I've known Mingo (Dominguez) for a few years now, and he's one of the best baseball minds I've been around. With that being said, he's an even better person, and you win in life with the right people. I look forward to making big strides with this program in my hometown of Louisville."
