LYNCHBURG, Va. — Liberty scored two goals inside the last eight minutes in defeating the Bellarmine University men's soccer team 2-0 in an ASUN opener Saturday at Osborne Stadium.
All three of the shots for Bellarmine (2-2-1, 0-1 ASUN) were on goal, but Liberty (2-1-1, 1-0) had 15 total attempts with six coming on frame. The Flames had a 10-1 advantage in shots in the second half.
Still, the teams were scoreless for over 80 minutes. Liberty finally broke through in the 83rd minute on a goal by Seth Clark.
Less than two minutes later, the Flames added an insurance goal. Luke Eberle found the net off an assist from Gabe Findley.
Bellarmine will host Central Arkansas in its ASUN home opener at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
