COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Bellarmine women's tennis team opened its fall schedule this weekend with a double-header at the University of Missouri.
In the first hidden dual, sophomore
Ekaterina Tikhonko and freshman
Vendula Kryslova bested Missouri's Laura Masic and Koral Koldobski in no. 2 doubles. In the second match, freshmen
Hanley Riner and
Shu Grosso also took down Masic and Koldobski in no. 3 doubles. Despite those being Bellarmine's only wins of the day, Head Coach
Brian Slack was proud of the team's effort:
"This group competed, and I'm proud of how they have really come together in a short period of time," Slack said. "We competed as a team which says a lot with five new players in the lineup. We will get back to work this week and get ready for some good competition next week at Middle Tennessee. This is going to be a fun season!"
Also notably, Kryslova took Masic to three sets in no. 3 singles in the first match (6-3, 4-6, 5-10), and Riner lost in three sets to Koldobski at no. 5 singles in the second match (2-6, 6-4, 9-11).
The Knights return to the court next weekend with a weekend of hidden duals from Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 at Middle Tennessee.
