LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In its third consecutive home dual, Bellarmine wrestling fell to defending SoCon champion Campbell by a final score of 34-15 at Knights Hall on Friday.
Campbell (15-8, 6-0 SoCon) stayed undefeated in conference action, while Bellarmine (10-3, 2-3 SoCon) had its win streak stopped at three.
"The guys wrestled hard tonight, but we weren't the better team," Knights Head Coach Ned Shuck said. "Losing never feels good but if it happens, I expect my guys to take advantage of the situation to help them grow. I have no doubt in my mind that our men will use their experience tonight to better themselves and our program."
The Camels used a strong start to propel them ahead for good. Starting at 184, Campbell claimed bonus points in the first six bouts and eventually took a 34-0 lead.
At 149, Zac Cowan fought hard into overtime against Chris Rivera, but Rivera claimed a 3-1 win in the extra period.
Bellarmine got on the board with wins by forfeiture at 157 and 174, while Cole Nance earned an 11-5 victory by decision over Domonic Baker at 165. Nance entered the day as Bellarmine's wins leader this season, and ended the day with his 22nd victory on the year.
"Our guys are going to have a 'can't wait' attitude for our dual tomorrow," Shuck added. "I'm really excited to see them test their abilities with another tough team at home. It just doesn't get much better than competing, and our guys love it!"
Bellarmine is back on the mat tomorrow night against The Citadel at Knights Hall. Action begins at 5:00 p.m. and can also be viewed on BU Knights Sports Network.
