GREENVILLE, S.C. — Bellarmine softball concluded its slate at the Furman Invitational on Sunday, falling to the host Paladins by a final score of 5-1.
Bellarmine (1-8) went 1-4 on the weekend, picking up its first win of the year against Sacred Heart on Saturday.
The Knights took an early lead against Furman in the third inning, when
Olivia Bricker brought home
Erica Endris with a RBI single. Endris started the inning with a leadoff double to left field, but the Knights were unable to score more than the one run.
In the bottom half of the inning, Furman responded with a two-out rally. The Paladins used four consecutive hits to plate three runs and take over the lead for the rest of the game.
Sylvia Burroughs hit a RBI double in the fourth, and Kiley Perry produced a RBI single in the fifth to extend Furman's lead to 5-1.
Anna Greenwell and
Carson Goatley had the other hits for Bellarmine on Sunday, resulting in four as a team for the game.
Goatley pitched the first four innings for BU, striking out three with no walks.
Claire Lehmkuhler closed out the game in the circle, allowing just one unearned run with three innings.
Sierra Tufts earned the complete game win for Furman.
Greenwell is now riding a five-game hit streak for Bellarmine, totaling a team-best six hits at the Furman Invitational.
Alexis Hargrove racked up five hits, including a pair of home runs, while
Olivia Bricker earned four hits with a grand slam in the win on Saturday. Along with tossing 10 innings in the circle, Goatley also five hits at the plate this weekend.
Bellarmine returns to the diamond on Friday, when the Knights face Ball State and Miami Ohio to open the Velvet Milkman Invitational at Murray State.
