EVANSVILLE, Ind. —
Drew Buhr had a sterling start spoiled as Southern Indiana scored all six of its runs in the eighth in rallying for a 6-3 win over the Bellarmine University baseball team Saturday at USI Baseball Field.
The loss was the first of the season for Bellarmine (4-1) and first in the
Chris Dominguez era. Southern Indiana (4-3) evened the series at 1-all after the Knights captured a 4-2 win Friday in the series opener.
Buhr was masterful in the no-decision, firing 7.0 shutout innings while allowing only two hits and striking out seven. The senior right-hander fanned two apiece in the first and seventh, and in between struck out the side in order in the second. He never faced more than four batters in any inning.
Things took a turn for the worse after Buhr departed. Southern Indiana rallied for six runs on four hits in the eighth, highlighted by a go-ahead three-run homer from Tucker Ebest. The Knights were also charged with three errors in the inning.
Bellarmine had only four hits, but the Knights managed to build a 3-0 lead after senior third baseman
Colin Bertsch launched a solo homer and senior left fielder
Tommy Dilz smacked an RBI double in the fourth before the Knights added an unearned run in the seventh. It was Bertsch's second homer of the season.
Bertsch collected two hits and Dilz and sophomore right fielder
Casey Sorg added one each.
The series finale is set for 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
