NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Bellarmine softball nearly had its first ASUN win of the season, but Lipscomb claimed a walk-off 2-1 victory in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
Bellarmine (1-22, 0-3 ASUN) led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Held to just two hits over the first six innings, Lipscomb started its last push with three consecutive singles to load the bases. After Jack Busch struck out swinging, Kaylyn Belfield hit an infield single to move every runner one base forward and score the tying run. Elise Shewmaker followed with a walk-off single to right field, ending the game.
The Knights totaled three hits for the game, and they all occurred in the fourth inning.
Megan Konermann led off with a single and advanced to second base on an
Alexis Hargrove sacrifice bunt.
Chloe Collins then singled down the left field line, advancing Konermann to third base. Konermann later came in to score Bellarmine's lone run on a fielding error.
Ellie Alvarez tallied Bellarmine's third hit with an infield single to shortstop.
Claire Lehmkuhler tossed her best game of the season for Bellarmine despite the loss. Lehmkuhler allowed seven hits, five of which came in the seventh, and struck out five over 6.1 innings pitched.
Emily Yakubowski picked up her ninth win of the season, allowing one run over seven innings for Lipscomb.
Bellarmine returns home Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against UT-Martin (3:00 p.m.) and Marshall (5:00 p.m.).
