LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On a night that was just as much about community as baseball, No. 8 Louisville defeated Bellarmine University 14-2 on Wednesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Prior to the game, the teams held a ceremony honoring the victims of this week's tragic events in the city, with players and the head coaches placing flowers and balls inscribed with the victims' names around home plate.
Bellarmine's
Chris Dominguez returned to his alma mater for the first time as a head coach.
Adam Elliott did as well as an assistant for the Knights. Dominguez was a two-time All-American at Louisville, while Elliott was a standout relief pitcher.
Louisville (25-7) notched 21 hits and got going with a five-run second inning against the Knights (10-23). Bellarmine collected four hits, highlighted by a solo homer from freshman shortstop
Luke Scales in the ninth, his second round-tripper of the season.
Sophomore right fielder
Casey Sorg, senior third baseman
Peyton Back and freshman center fielder
Will Aubel added a hit apiece for Bellarmine, which scored its other run in the first inning.
Bellarmine will host North Alabama in a three-game ASUN series starting at 2 p.m. (ET) Friday.
