LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine women's tennis played its final home match of the season on Sunday and fell to Central Arkansas by a final score of 4-3.
Bellarmine also honored its lone senior,
Channing Varnum, prior to the match.
"I'm proud of the team today and the fight we had from the start," Knights Head Coach
Brian Slack said. "We played well in doubles, and I'm proud of Ekaterina and Vendula for getting us two quick points to put us in position to win. We just came up short in the remaining matches. Today was all about Channing, and I couldn't be more proud of how she has led this team and stepped up all year! Now, we're looking to finish the season strong."
The Knights jumped out to an early lead with doubles wins from the no. 1 team of
Ekaterina Tikhonko and
Vendula Kryslova 7-5, along with the no. 2 team of
Shu Grosso and
Cydney Rogers 6-3.
With the doubles point in its pocket, Bellarmine added another pair of points at the top of the singles lineup. Tikhonko bested Jauen Lee 6-2, 6-4 at no. 1 singles, while Kryslova defeated Vihitraporn Vimuktanada 6-3, 6-3 at no. 2 singles.
UCA rallied the rest of the way, however, earning singles wins at the no. 3, no. 4, no. 5, and no. 6 positions.
