Softball falls to Austin Peay in series finale

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Bellarmine softball team wrapped up its series at Austin Peay on Saturday with the Governors taking the finale by a final score of 6-0.

Bellarmine was held hitless until the sixth inning when Addison Kerr picked up a pinch-hit single.  The Knights trailed just 2-0 at the time and had the tying run at the plate three times that inning.  BU was held in check the rest of the inning, however, and APSU added to its lead with four insurance runs in the sixth.

The Governors scored their first run in the second inning on an Emily Harkleroad sacrifice fly, and Megan Hodum drove in another run later in the inning.  APSU's four runs in the sixth were highlighted by two home runs.

Claire Lehmkuhler pitched for the Knights, allowing four earned runs over 101 pitches.  Jordan Benefiel claimed her 15th win of the season with a complete game shutout for Austin Peay.

Bellarmine returns home for a midweek game versus no. 15 Kentucky at Knights Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
