LOUISVILLE, Ky.—It's Derby Week in Louisville, and the Davenport Family Scholarship Fund is ready to celebrate all things Derby and "Kentuckiana" while raising tuition assistance for the Bellarmine Basketball managers at The Davenport Derby Dash, Presented by the Trager Family Foundation.
The event, which is a handicapping seminar/auction, will be held Wednesday, May 3 at Audubon Country Club from 5:45-8:30 p.m. Last year's inaugural event brought in $160,000 to help cover tuition expenses for the Bellarmine basketball managers. The goal this year is to exceed that amount, and Bellarmine Head Basketball Coach
Scott Davenport said the event is off to a great start with the Trager Family Foundation coming on board as a presenting sponsor.
Davenport stated, "On behalf of our family and Bellarmine Basketball, we want to thank Steve Trager and The Trager Family Foundation for their contribution to The Davenport Family Scholarship Fund. Our scholarship fund is one of many initiatives the Trager Family Foundation does to ultimately make our community better. Our ultimate goal for the scholarship fund is to make a Bellarmine education more accessible to any student willing to demonstrate the selflessness and work ethic required to be a student manager. Thanks to the gift from the Trager Family, all of our table sponsors, and ultimately all of friends and donors, we are on our way to accomplishing that."
The Davenport Family Scholarship Fund was established last year to cover tuition expenses for Bellarmine basketball managers with the Davenport Derby Dash being the primary fundraiser. The event features a panel of professional handicappers moderated by Travis Stone, the race caller at Churchill Downs (voice of the Derby) as well as a silent auction, live auction and several raffles.
The marquee raffle item is a personal barrel selection of Woodford Reserve bourbon. The winner and three guests will tour the distillery with one of Woodford's master tasters and taste samples from several barrels before selecting their choice, and the winner receives 150 1-liter bottles of bourbon with a custom label. Raffle tickets are $100 and we're selling a maximum of 500 tickets. Link to raffle:
