LOUISVILLE, Ky. — IUPUI scored twice in the first half and added another score late in the second half of a 3-0 win over the Bellarmine University women's soccer team Thursday evening at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Caroline Kelley bracketed a pair of goals around one by Shannon Ott for IUPUI (3-0), which won its third straight match to open the season. Bellarmine (0-1-1) had some near misses, but the Jaguars were able to keep the Knights off the board after BU had scored three times in its season opener against Northern Kentucky.
Kelley tallied the game's first goal in the 17th minute, pushing in a rebound off a save of Hannah Roberson's shot. Four minutes later, IUPUI bumped the lead to 2-0 after Ott tapped in an open shot off a feed from Emma Antoine.
There was no scoring for the majority of the second half, but Kelley added to the total in the 88th minute, winning a scramble for the ball in front of the goal and knocking it into the net. It was her third goal in three matches.
Bellarmine was outshot 10-3 in the first half, but the Knights had an 8-4 advantage in attempts in the second half. Freshman defender
Teagan Douglas nearly scored on the back end of a free kick, but her shot caromed off the post. IUPUI goalkeeper Ashton Kudlo made saves on back-to-back shots within seconds of each other by Bellarmine late in the contest.
Bellarmine will host Indianapolis at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
