RICHMOND, Ky.—The host Eastern Kentucky Colonels came into season opener of Atlantic Sun Conference play on a roll, and the visiting Bellarmine Knights could not stop their momentum as EKU won its 10th match in a row by sweeping BU 3-0 in Baptist Health Arena.
The statistics tell the story of the match as EKU posted an attack percentage of .466 while the Knights managed just .089. The Colonels registered set wins of 25-8, 25-17, 25-16.
Doing most of the damage for the Colonels (11-2, 1-0 ASUN) was Kambree Lucas. The redshirt junior from Brazil, Indiana recorded 13 kills while hitting at a .619 clip. She also added two service aces and seven digs.
For Bellarmine, senior
Bailey Venard provided the most offense chalking up seven kills on just 16 swings. Sophomore
Kylie VanHoy showed her versatility by contributing in the middle, on the outside, while also setting and playing defense. The Loogootee, Indiana native notched two solo blocks, five assists, three kills and four digs.
Bellarmine (2-11, 0-1 ASUN) returns to action on Saturday, hosting Queens in an ASUN contest at 4 p.m. in Knights Hall.
