INDIANAPOLIS — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team rallied late to earn a 1-1 nonconference draw with IUPUI on Tuesday at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, Bellarmine (1-2-5) trailed IUPUI (4-3-2) in the 64th minute on the fifth goal of the season by Josemir Gomez.
Bellarmine displayed resiliency as the Knights fought back to equalize the contest in the 76th minute. Junior forward
Chris Shust tallied his first goal this season off an assist from redshirt freshman forward
Alex Halevy, who collected his first collegiate point.
It was an encouraging bounce-back effort following Bellarmine's wrenching 3-2 loss to reigning ASUN champion Lipscomb in which the Bisons successfully completed a frantic comeback inside the last 15 minutes. The Knights also utilized their depth, playing even with the Jaguars despite missing multiple key contributors.
Bellarmine finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots, including 6-2 on frame. The attempts were even at four apiece in the first half, but the Knights had an 8-4 advantage after the break.
Bellarmine returns to ASUN action with a 6 p.m. (ET) contest Saturday at Queens.
