Women's soccer plays to 1-1 deadlock with Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 stalemate with Morehead State on Thursday night at MSU Soccer Field.

Sophomore midfielder Alexa Orozco registered her first goal of the season for Bellarmine (3-1-2), which pushed its unbeaten streak to four with the draw plus its three prior wins. It was the first-ever meeting between the Knights and Morehead State (1-3-2).

Bellarmine had to dig itself out of an early hole. The Knights conceded a goal less than one minute into the match after a collision in the box off a set piece freed up a golden chance for MSU's Colleen Swift, who took advantage to stake the Eagles to a 1-0 lead.

Bellarmine responded well, unloading six shots on goal in the first half and eight overall before the intermission. After the break, freshman forward Lauren Bingham was taken down in the box in the 58th minute, and the Knights were rewarded with a penalty kick.

Orozco drilled the opportunity for her first goal of the season and fourth of her career. It was one of many on-target shots for the Knights, who had eight of 10 attempts on frame.

Bellarmine held Morehead State to eight shots, with four coming on goal. The Knights also had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Bellarmine will play at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday at Xavier.
