Cadagan, Elder tally goals for Knights in loss at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio — Wright State scored on all three of its shots in the first half and held off the Bellarmine University men's soccer team for a 3-2 win over the Knights on Tuesday at Alumni Field.

Freshman defender Martin Cadagan and freshman forward Colin Elder supplied the goals for Bellarmine (3-6-3), which played its final nonconference contest of the regular season. Senior defender Austin Yowell recorded an assist against the Raiders (6-7-2).

Wright State has scored in every game this season. Limiting the Raiders to three first-half shots seemingly would have been laudable for Bellarmine, but unfortunately WSU located the net on each attempt, registering the goals in the 20th, 32nd and 41st minutes.

Bellarmine leveled the match in the 22nd minute on Cadagan's second goal of the season. He found the net off a Yowell header following a corner kick by senior midfielder Jack Fischer.

Wright State answered Cadagan's goal with two more of its own before halftime. Bellarmine's defense buckled down in the second half and kept the Raiders from scoring again.

The Knights cut their deficit to 3-2 in the 74th minute on Elder's second goal of the season. He expertly lofted a shot from 25 yards over WSU's goalkeeper and inside the far post.

Bellarmine finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 6-2 majority in corner kicks. Wright State had a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

Bellarmine will host Jacksonville at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday in ASUN play.
