COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech scored five runs in the first three innings and limited the Bellarmine University baseball team to five hits in a 5-1 win over the Knights on Saturday at Averitt Express Baseball Complex.
Tennessee Tech (1-1) evened the season-opening series at 1-all against Bellarmine (1-1). The Golden Eagles bracketed two-run innings in the first and third around a one-run frame in the second in building a 5-0 lead.
Bellarmine's offense never got going, but the Knights relievers provided the team a shot to get back in it. Senior right-hander
Ryan Johnson tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, freshman right-hander
Chase Carver fired a shutout frame and junior right-hander
Hudson Cornett whirled 2.0 scoreless. It was the Bellarmine debut for Carver and Cornett.
Tennessee Tech's Peyton Calitri didn't allow an earned run over 7.0 innings of work. Bellarmine broke up the shutout with an unearned run in the seventh on an RBI single by junior center fielder
Jacob Rowold.
Rowald had a pair of hits for Bellarmine. Junior right fielder
Casey Sorg, junior catcher
Matt Flaherty and junior second baseman
Andres Castro had one apiece.
The series finale is slated for 2 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
